Spotlight on Patrick Mason: Why he enjoys practicing law
"The practice of law enables me to be an instrument of peace for those in need, and at the same time, challenges me to use the unique gifts I have been given," says Patrick B. Mason, founder of The Mason Law Firm in Memphis, Tennessee.
He cites an example:
"Several months ago, the two sons of one of our clients contacted us to let us know that their father’s health was failing. They asked us 'what needs to be done?' and we began a careful review of assets and beneficiaries to ensure that our client’s affairs were in order. Some gifts were made and beneficiaries changed in order to align the assets with the overall plan. We projected asset values and took steps to minimize death taxes, all on an expedited basis. The end result occurred a few weeks later when, on a Friday afternoon, we met with the sons and presented the entire picture, asset distribution, estimated death taxes, and an estimate of the timing. On the following Monday, their father passed away, and without fear or anxiety, they could celebrate their father’s life in memory, without worrying about how to handle all of his affairs after his death."
Why does Patrick Mason enjoy practicing law? He sums it up this way: "It is fulfilling to me to enable our clients to take care of the emotional issues after someone’s death. We share the sadness of the loss with them, but allow them to find peace in not worrying about the administrative and legal processions facing them."
